Understanding the Cervical Spine
The cervical spine consists of seven vertebrae separated by discs that act as cushions and allow the neck to move smoothly. As we age—or after an injury—these discs can wear out or herniate.

Numbness or tingling in the hand or fingers
Weakness in the arm or grip

Recovery After Surgery
Most patients return home the same day or after one night in the hospital.
Walking begins immediately, and many patients notice improvement in their arm pain shortly after surgery. As healing progresses, activities are gradually increased under the guidance of the surgical team.
Recovery varies from patient to patient, but following postoperative instructions helps maximize long-term success.
